Das Wichtigste

  • Verify serials and driver originality in writing before paying
  • Fixed-install stock usually outlasts touring stock
  • Price the total system, including freight and amplification

Start with the serial number, not the photos

Used line array cabinets are usually sold by rental companies, venues or resellers who bought a production lot. The first thing to verify is that the serial number on the cabinet matches the driver part numbers you are quoted. A clean front photo tells you almost nothing about whether the boxes have been re-coned with non-original parts.

Ask the seller for a photo of each serial plate and a written statement that the drivers are original. If they hesitate, treat that as a no. Counterfeit and rebuilt cabinets are the single largest source of bad used line array purchases.

Judge the duty cycle, not the paint

Touring stock accumulates heat cycles and connector wear, while fixed installs age slowly. A cabinet with scuffed paint from a theatre install is usually a better buy than a cosmetically perfect box that spent five summers on festival stages.

Ask where the boxes were used, how many events per year and whether they were ever flown outdoors. Then inspect the rigging points, handles and speakON sockets — mechanical wear there is a reliable proxy for real service hours.

  • Request the last service date and any repair invoices
  • Check every rigging point for cracks or bent hardware
  • Confirm the amplifier or processing ecosystem the boxes require

Price against replacement, not against new list

A fair used price sits between the cost of an equivalent replacement and the risk you are accepting. For a current model with a strong service network, 45–60% of new street price is normal. For discontinued models, the discount has to cover the possibility that spares disappear.

Build the total cost before you commit: freight, import duty, amp channels, processing and any driver service. A cheap cabinet that needs four re-cones is rarely cheap.

Häufige Käuferfragen

Are used line array speakers worth buying?

Yes, when the cabinets come from documented install or rental inventory and the drivers are original. The savings are real, but only if you verify serial numbers and service history before paying.

How much should I pay for a used line array cabinet?

For current models with good parts support, 45–60% of new street price is a reasonable starting point. Add freight, duty and any amplifier or processing costs before comparing offers.

Can I mix used line array cabinets from different batches?

You can, but matched batches are strongly preferred. Mixed batches can have different driver revisions, which affects tonal consistency across the array.
